PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Oahu Railway & Land Co. Depot Building, originally constructed in 1925, is a landmark of Hawai‘i’s transportation history and Spanish Mission Revival architecture. As part of a historic reroof effort, preserving the building’s legacy while ensuring long-term protection against the island’s demanding climate was essential.
SlopeShield Plus SA from VaproShield was the trusted solution. Installed beneath the Depot’s signature red barrel tile roof, SlopeShield Plus SA provides superior bulk water holdout while remaining vapor permeable, a crucial balance for historic structures. Its advanced air barrier performance mitigates moisture-laden air from entering the roofing assembly, helping preserve the integrity of both the building and its architectural features.
Another key benefit of SlopeShield Plus SA is its 180 days of UV and climate exposure resistance, ensuring reliable protection during construction phases, even under Hawai‘i’s intense sun and unpredictable weather. This resilience allowed reroofing to move forward without disruption while safeguarding the valuable historic site below.
By combining proven durability with modern building science, SlopeShield Plus SA supports the long-term stewardship of the Oahu Railway & Land Co. Depot Building, ensuring it continues to stand as a symbol of Hawai‘i’s heritage and community growth.
