PROJECT DESCRIPTION

For more than a century, Belmont Park has been an iconic destination in American horse racing. Opened in 1905, the historic racetrack has hosted the Belmont Stakes since its earliest days, welcoming generations of racing fans and some of the sport’s greatest horses. As one of the nation’s most storied racing destinations, the Belmont Park Redevelopment represents a new chapter in the legacy of this landmark New York destination.

As part of the redevelopment, PanelShield SA from VaproShield was installed over approximately 40,000 square feet of gypsum sheathing beneath the arena’s exterior metal panel system. The project required a durable vapor permeable air barrier capable of providing reliable protection during construction and long-term performance behind the finished cladding.

PanelShield SA provided strong adhesion to the substrate and the durability needed beneath the metal panel system, along with UV exposure capabilities that provided reliable protection while the exterior enclosure was being completed. The GC and subcontractor noted that “the product sticks well and is very durable under the metal panel system.”

The Belmont Park Redevelopment carries forward the legacy of one of New York’s most recognizable destinations while creating a new venue for generations to come. PanelShield SA provides the durable, vapor permeable protection needed to support the performance of this next chapter at Belmont Park.
