Cape Shirreff Field Camp, Antarctica

PanelShield SA
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The rugged landscape of Antarctica will set the backdrop for this unique modular build in the Cape Shirreff Field Camp on Livingston Island. For 25 years, scientists have been using the existing Cape Shirreff facility to conduct studies on the marine ecosystem, but unmanageable leaks, black mold, and peeling paint have threatened the scientists’ health and forced them to spend countless hours on building maintenance instead of science. The time has come for a replacement, and VaproShield is proud to be partnering with 22 Master of Architecture students and two faculty members from the University of Colorado Denver, a seasoned Antarctic contractor, and a team of engineers to design and build a new modular field station!
Given the severe weather and cold climate, VaproShield’s PanelShield SA was the perfect choice for the water-resistive air barrier. With its aggressive adhesive and all-weather installation, PanelShield SA will provide long-lasting protection against leaks and mold build-up, allowing scientists to once again focus on science, and not building maintenance.
