Over 10,000 sq. ft. of WrapShield RS Rain Screen Vapor Permeable Water Resistive Barrier (WRB) and Air Barrier (AB) Membrane with a 3mm built-in drainage matrix was installed on Harvard Square Assisted Living. Contractors chose WrapShield RS Rain Screen because it offered a cost efficient, one-step installation of a WRB, air barrier, and rain screen cavity that worked with stucco as well as conventional siding and windows. WrapShield RS’s integrated tape also ensured simplified shingle installation throughout the high-altitude climate of Colorado.
The installer was reluctant to use a traditional WRB with stucco because of its failure rates, and a liquid applied WRB would have been impractical for the high traffic area. In the case of Harvard Assisted Living, the 3mm matrix option offered an ideal minimalist rain screen cavity for stucco.
Without disrupting conventional installation practices, WrapShield RS in 3mm will decrease the incidence of moisture related damage and dry out the cementitious stucco by creating a drainage plane behind it. Once completed, this eco-conscious retirement home will provide significant cost savings to the owners and residents for years to come.
